This link shows early preparation of the bed to eliminate grubs that were still near the surface at the time of planting. It's difficult to approximate size in a picture - this bed is approximately 6' x 6'. There's 14 plants in this bed - two different types of broccoli - each a little over 12" tall. A couple kale plants can be seen as well, four of the others have been moved inside into the grow room to carry us through the winter months. The broccoli will be left outdoors on into the deep freezes of the later winter months.
The head (as seen in the second picture still pretty small) usually grows pretty quickly once it forms.
