The grow room is beginning to come alive. All things shown
were started from seeds using various techiques shown and explained at various places at this site. Both the cucumbers
and beans are located at places, and in pots wherein they'll remain until harvest. The beans will likely see more than
one planting within the grow room during the winter months. Some of the lettuces will be repotted into larger 5" pots
and placed on the shelves, while some will be put into larger 7" pots and put onto the movable cart with the tomato plants.
The tomato plants will be repotted into larger 9" pots where they'll remain within the grow room throughout the winter.
Barring a short remaing time outdoors for lettuces, the rest of these vegetable plants have finished their time outdoors and will now do very well within the grow room with it's special lighting and supplemental CO2. Various lighting is used for the various plants and it's even changed during the various cycles of growth. Bluish 6000k spectrum is used to promote greenery, and then for plants that produce fruit, 3000k spectrum lighting is later added to promote flowering and fruit production. Looking at the lighting surrounding the cucumbers, you'll see various types of lighting (fluorescent above and LED above in front of), most of which I turned off to avoid washing out the picture. That lighting is in various places to help guide the plants out and down towards the floor of the grow room. Although not visible in the pictures, there is also a T5 fluoresent light fixture mounted vertically on the wall, the light from which they'll use as they begin to vine down towards the floor - I'll attach them loosely to the wall as they do so. The tomato plants, while on the movable cart, will be placed on computer controlled heating cables to keep their roots warm in a way similar to what they experience outdoors as the sun begins to warm the ground during the transition from spring to summer, promotiing the flowering and fruiting process. Something similar will be done for the cucumbers. The third cucumber pictures shows how the plants are pruned to help promote healthy growth of the fruit.
