A healthy mouth
without chemical mouthwashes and toothpastes
and whiten your teeth too!
(TOC)

Have you ever had a look at what's actually in your mouthwash and toothpaste? I hadn't really given it much thought myself until recently. I began to wonder why, even though I'd do the Listerine full-minute rinse at night, and regular brushing with toothpaste that was supposed to progressively whiten, my teeth weren't getting any whiter, and between visits to the dentist I could see tartar slowly building - most notable when using a small inspection mirror to look at the backside of lower teeth in the front, where it usually develops first for most people. Plus there was the waking in the morning with the yucky-mouth-feeling until I'd do the "Listerine Slosh."

I began doing some research. One of the things I discovered that's in nearly every mouthwash and toothpaste is something called glycerin. It coats your teeth, and I suppose could help prevent your teeth being attacked by whatever nasty bacteria accumulates in your mouth living mostly off sugars that remain from unhealthy, and even sometimes healthy eating habits. Glycerin is used for a lot of things - most people have heard of, if not used Glycerin soap. It's the somewhat transparent soap, which doesn't do an exceptional job of cleaning, but does leave your skin soft due to the coating that it leaves on it which helps hold moisture in.

Anyhow, I discovered an ancient technique that has been around for hundreds of years for killing bacteria within the mouth as well as pulling toxins out of the body. It involves nothing more than sloshing certain oils around in your mouth for about 20 minutes in the morning. The most commonly used oil has been sesame oil. However coconut oil has the advantage of also whitening your teeth in a very short time in a way that will look as good as, or better than, many of the acclaimed chemical based teeth-whitening methods. An organic coconut oil I highly recommend can be purchased at Amazon.com:

Skeptical? Give it all a try for just a couple of weeks and see the difference it makes. After sloshing the coconut oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes, you'll be amazed at how clean and healthy your mouth and teeth feel. Within just a few days you'll also begin to see your teeth becoming whiter. I won't kid you by saying it's a pleasant experience - the coconut oil doesn't taste anything like your favorite coconut cake - but is tolerable once you get used to it. Be sure not to spit it down the drain since it's an oil that will harden when cool and clog the pipes. Although it may be hard when you put it into your mouth it melts within seconds. I use only about a level teaspoon, and soon have quite a mouth-full as the saliva begins to build.

But what about the slow build-up of tartar, caused partly by plaque-forming bacteria which hardens into tartar? Instead of using chemicals to kill bacteria (killing both bad AND good bacteria), one can use good bacteria to kill bad bacteria - a fairly recent discovery! So, where to get the healthy bacteria? I like the ease of shopping at Amazon.com so that's also where I buy this oral care product. Here is a link for what I use (expensive, but worth every penny):
Life Extension Florassist Oral Hygiene 30 lozenges

Take a pill containing the bacteria (most commonly referred to as "probiotics") at night after brushing, so it can work at night and you'll wake with your mouth feeling healthy instead of yucky, and any tartar will slowly begin to subside.

BUT WAIT . . . I haven't discussed the brushing yet. I use one of the few toothpastes that contains NO glycerin so the minerals in my foods aren't blocked from rebuilding the surfaces of my teeth, by the glycerine coating. Once again, Amazon.com is a good place to buy the toothpaste:
